A Day at Kirkwood Forest

Kirkwood Forest is located north of Thessalon, about an hour’s drive from Sault Ste. Marie.
Join us for a day of learning and exploration as we uncover the history of Kirkwood Forest—its origins, the people who shaped it, and the local context of some of Ontario’s oldest red and white pine plantations.
Visit the site of a former logging camp, thinning trial, and recent renewal projects while experiencing today’s majestic pine stands and the results of decades of forest stewardship.
Guest speakers will share their expertise at seven tour stops. Through intended for CIF-ICF and Forest History Ontario (FHO) members, anyone interested in local forests and their history is welcome.
Enjoy a full day to immerse yourself in the history & beauty of the Kirkwood Forest!
Transportation: Carpool from Sault Ste. Marie (meet 8:30 am; depart 9:00 am sharp) or at 9:40 am in Bruce Mines; return time Salt Lake St.
Wear clothing suitable for a day outdoors. Rain or shine, including footwear appropriate for walking in the forest.
Bring $10 for your volunteer driver. A nominal charge will apply to non-members of CIF-ICF and FHO.
